    1. Improved provision of local cultural and social events.

Initially the building performed the function of the lodging-house for work-people, it also used to be a seat for Estrada Opolska but eventually it fell into decline and began to turn into the ruin of the building. Major designing problems emerging on the conversion of the building resulted not so much from the poor state of repair of the building but rather from the extremely varied program of the institution of culture – ARTPUNKT Centre of Artistic Education + for which it was being prepared. In this building plenty of daylight was designed – an art room, office rooms and guest rooms, as well as rooms for which bright daylight is not recommended – a photographic darkroom and a storeroom for pictures and drawings. Reconstruction of the façade consisted in the arrangement of window openings and then closing some of them. The façade was additionally screened with large-size, translucent polycarbonate boards – “outer curtains” filtering light. Thin façade boards bend and wave in the wind, but thanks to irregularly placed fasteners they do not vibrate. Depending on the angle of sight, the boards make a uniform, opaque area or become almost transparent revealing the structure of window openings. The effect is fully visible only after dark, when the lamps fixed in alcoves begin to shine. The ground floor where the art room and graphic studio are located has got a facade covered with graphitoidal boards. The structure and roofing of the roof terrace was made in vivid green colour. Inside the building, the walls of sanitary and communal rooms are also painted green. The staircase required entire reconstruction. A small span of inner load-bearing walls made the designers work out a non-standard solution for the balustrade, which was made from solid panels with slots instead of handrails. Reconstruction of the interior consisted in removing partition walls and adjusting the size of doors to the sizes of window openings. Naturally, the surroundings of the building had to meet the new function: a car park and its access roads also make part of the building revitalization.

In the thoroughly reconstructed and modernized building there is a two-level art room, photographic and film studio and design workshop. The library and archives are also there, as well as guest rooms necessary to implement the program of artistic residency. Within the framework of educational activity, among other things, artistic workshops will be conducted for all age and social groups (including family workshops) meetings with creators, talks and lectures
