    1. What forms of cooperation were used as new approaches in the field of rehabilitation and conversion of urban functional areas?
    2. The project "Revitalization of public spaces between block of flats" was implemented mainly by Operational Programme Prague - Competitiveness in the area of the environment - Revitalization of Territory. It was co-financed by Metropolitan district of Prague 13 and with the assistance of Municipality of Prague. Operational Programme Prague - Competitiveness (OP PC) is one of the programs in the Czech Republic, which uses the resources of the European Regional Development Fund in the period 2007 - 2013. OPPC is valid only for the capital city of Prague. The program is also focused on improving the quality of environmental protection of the population. Thanks to the successful funding and cooperation between all involved institutions, six public spaces were fully reconstructed and revitalized. The reason for the project implementation was the revitalization of the six spaces between block of flats in a cadastral area of Stodůlky. Green vegetation, public spaces, children´s and sports playground were restored, which had an direct impact on the improvement of the environment of the area. Revitalization of the spaces between block of flats had an immediate impact not only on the concerned citizens (primary target group), but also to the visitors of those sites as well as to the residents of the surrounding neighborhood. The aim of the project was to enhance the attractiveness of the revitalized spaces between block of flats and to ensure attractive and high quality of living for its inhabitants. Strategies to achieving the objectives of the project are defined as the revitalization of public green sports fields and public spaces between block of flats.

    7. Was the building or space between buildings) important to local communities and how were they involved in decision-making process about its rehabilitation or conversion?
    8. Investments are planned on the basis of expert´s opinion from the Department of the Environment and expertise of designers and project architects always with regard to the requirements of the population. Residents send written suggestions and regularly visit our office workers and express them their wishes, suggestions and remarks. In addition, office workers held individual meetings with citizens in the field of relevant area. Individual open space meetings between the representatives of Municipality of Prague 13 and local people were concucted on a regular basis. People were actively participating in the final appearance of revitalised public spaces between block of flats, and had chance to exppress their view and wishes concerning the adjustment of the public spaces.

    10. The project was an initiative of the city of Prague 13. Revitalization of the public spaces is a component part of a long planned and ongoing of public areas and green spaces administrated by the department of the environment of Metropolitan District of Prague 13. It is consistent with the concept of urban development in the protection and creation of the environment. Reconstructions relates to planting, hard surfaces, parks, playgrounds and sports fields throughout the city of Prague 13. Some of the localities have been reconstructed in the past, some are planned to be renovated in the next few years. The work is carried out gradually according to the urgency, according to the property relations, and also according to the level of funding. The district funds are limited and used only for a small part of the works. Various subsidy and grant programs from different sources are regularly monitored . Successfully raised funds are used to finance additional investment projects implemented in the field of maintenance and creation of urban green areas.

    12. This project has positively affected the quality of life and housing, the range of possibilities for leisure time and sports activities and last but not least it helped to strenghten social ties of inhabitants to the area.

    14. The project is evaluated as successful and if an appropriate additional call will be declared, Prague 13 would like to continue with the process of revitalization in other public spaces between block of flats .


    There are more than 6 000 people living in Dědina block of flats. The whole revitalization 3 -phases -process took 4 years and the total cost of the project was 11 200 000 EUR. It is one of the first completely reconstructed block of flats as far as the public spaces in Prague are concerned.
