    II. TYPOLOGY
    1. Identified new functions for structures from the era of socialism in 1945 - 1989).

      The Old Ursus has a convenient location: proximity of railway station and central position to new settlements. Therefore the concept of revitalization concentrates on the creation of a shopping and service offer for the whole district. At the moment the area is avoided by the residents from new settlements. The transport difficulties deepen the isolation of Old Ursus and the area is not a significant employees market. The services offered by SMEs from Old Ursus are limited to its area and satisfy the needs of local population. There is lack of capital that would give an incentive for economic development. The revitalization concept stresses the revival and the inclusion of marginalized area to the district and city. It will be done by the completion of the following objectives:  creation of new functions: recreation, sport and cultural offer will be developed through the expansion of recreational areas, construction of new facilities , education  renewal of blocks of flats and new functions for empty spaces Actions taken to achieve the above objectives have been divided into 5 projects: 1. Project II/1- new functions for public spaces 2. Project II/2 - two housing cooperatives will renovate blocks of flats and the surroundings 3. Project III/3 - 23 residential communities will renovate blocks of flats and the surroundings 4. Project II/4 – sports hall 5. Project II/5 – sports hall tent (sportowa hala namiotowa)

    III. SUPPLEMENT

    Ursus is predominantly a post-war residential area built in 50’s and 60’s. Before the bankruptcy of the Ursus factory the area of the project was the main administrative and service centre of the district. In the 90s the district was in deep economic crisis as most of the employees of the Ursus factory lost their jobs. At the same time there were built new exclusive residential houses. This led to divisions among inhabitants and the area of working class residents was marginalized.
