    III. DESCRIPTION
    1. What forms of cooperation were used as new approaches in the field of rehabilitation and conversion of urban functional areas?
    2. Before the actual renewal of the area Otava started a survey among s the residents had been carried out. In the fall 2007 two public consultations, led by representatives of the Partnership Foundation took place. At these public consultations the following groups of participants were presented: local residents, adjacent property owners, employees of nearby cultural centre and the representatives of the Metropolitan district, and of course the lead designer. Original image of the renewal of the area Otava, which assumed an exchange of surface to the open space, new drainage solutions and plantation of green vegetation was extended and based upon the outcomes of the public meetings and surveys. An intensive communication with private owners was kept during the whole project and they actively participated in the building control days. The primary school Na Beránku contributed to the project by very smooth and pleasant cooperation, i.e. mainly by means of distribution of invitations, flyers, questionnaires to the families of schoolchildren and the final realization of the satisfaction surveys. The local branch of Cultural Centre "KC 12" provided project with their premises and facilities, so the public hearings and meetings among the representatives from different involved parties during the building control days could be held. It also significantly helped to distribute flyers and invitations for project residents.

    7. Was the building or space between buildings) important to local communities and how were they involved in decision-making process about its rehabilitation or conversion?
    8. Local communities were actively involved in decision-making of the renewal of the public space of Otava. The final scheme and the extent of recovery of public spaces partly resulted from the suggestions of the population. This public area is the only “centre” of cultural and social life for the surrounding block of flats and their inhabitants. Public meetings were held, final appearance and design of the whole area was based on the meetings with residents, designer and representatives from the Metropolitan District of Prague 12. Satisfaction survey was carried out, total number of 520 questionnaires was sent to which 261 of the participants responded. The vast majority of responses were generally positive, approximately around 130 of the correspondents would like more benches and green vegetation in the area. Unfortunately, the vast number of respondents were interested only in the final results of the project and only 30 of them took part in the public meetings which were designed to the preparatory phase of the project. Finally it turned out that the public space is suitable for holding public street festivals. The final happening was very successful, reactions of the people were very positive, and Prague 12 Metropolitan District is considering to organize regular annual events of this kind.

    10. Attempts to improve territorial cohesion were made within the district. The positive outputs of the project are: a) renovation of existing public spaces, b) improvement of the dismal public space within a block of flats The space in front of the area Otava was modified according to the financial possibilities of the grant and according to the budget of the city. Apart from the new pavement, street furniture, repaired information boards and enlarged space for container, there was also built barrier free crossing on the basis of wishes of the local people and public lighting was extended.

    11. Were there attempts to reduced disparities between districts within cities/towns achieved reduced? And, if so, how was success on this front gauged?
    12. The positive outputs of the project are: a) involving the local residents into the decision-making process, strengthening the sense of responsibility along the place where they live, strengthening the feeling of identity with the place of their living, b) establishing the constructive cooperation with local people, c) reviving the interest of citizens about the place where they live, d) improvement of the relationship between the citizens and Municipality of Prague 12, e) strengthening the relationship with the primary school

    14. The communication with the local entrepreneurs was very difficult in terms of disposition of the space and led to a slight delay in the project implementation.

    IV. SUPPLEMENT

    There are more than 6 000 people living in Dědina block of flats. The whole revitalization 3 -phases -process took 4 years and the total cost of the project was 11 200 000 EUR. It is one of the first completely reconstructed block of flats as far as the public spaces in Prague are concerned.
